Why the fake plates? Because IMANOB

A Victorian driver with a flair for self-deprecation has been fined more than $1000 for driving an unregistered vehicle, with his distinctive plates giving him away.

Casey Highway Patrol cops pulled the vehicle over in the outer-Melbourne suburb of Hampton Park yesterday on the suspicion that the number plates, which read "IMANOB", were fake.

Having verified that they were, police asked the driver why he was driving with counterfeit plates.

"Because I'm a nob," came the reply.

He was issued with $777 fine for driving an unregistered vehicle – the rego had not been renewed since 2013 – and a $311 fine displaying fake plates.
