Truck driver wanted after motorcyclist dies following crash on major Melbourne freeway

A young motorcyclist has died in hospital after a truck crash in Melbourne yesterday, as police continue to search for one of the drivers involved.

The crash occurred at 4.30pm on the West Gate Freeway, near the Williamstown Road exit in Spotswood, causing major delays for commuters during the peak-hour rush.

Officers believe the motorcyclist was attempting to lane filter between two trucks when he was hit.

The 24-year-old Werribee man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died.

One truck driver stopped at the scene, while the other did not.

The second truck was last seen travelling westbound on the freeway, according to police.

Investigators would like to speak to the driver of the truck and are appealing for anyone with dash cam vision, or who witnessed the collision, to contact police.
