A corruption hearing into a suburban Melbourne council will be closed to the public from Monday amid coronavirus concerns.

The public hearings have been probing Casey Council for allegedly serious corrupt conduct over planning decisions.

The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) Commissioner Robert Redlich QC said the hearings would be closed to the public from Monday as a precautionary health measure.

The hearings, at the Fair Work Commission, will be streamed online and are expected to run for another fortnight.

It comes after Victoria's Supreme Court and County Court announced the unprecedented step of suspending all new jury trials indefinitely amid the spread of the virus.
