THREE VICTORIAN MEN WITH VIOLENT PASTS WHO STRUCK AGAIN

SEAN CHRISTIAN PRICE:

* pleaded guilty to the murder of Masa Vukotic, 17, in March 2015, and separate rape and other charges.

* was on parole and under a strict 10-year supervision order at the time

* released in May 2012 after eight years in custody over violent sex attacks dating back to 2002

* ten days before Price's release, Judge Roy Punshon found he posed an "unacceptable risk" of potentially grave offending without one

* paroled to live at the Corella Place transitional accommodation centre for sex offenders near Ararat

* jailed for three years for assaulting a psychologist and criminal damage at Corella Place in while on parole in 2012.

* sentence cut to 10 months on appeal

* Price released into the community in October 2014

Victorian premier Daniel Andrews says Masa's murder showed a "catastrophic failure" of the justice system

STEVEN JAMES HUNTER:

* first in custody, 1986 when convicted of murder and sentenced to 16 years

* escaped Pentridge prison in 1990, four months added to his sentence

* breached parole March 2002

* re-paroled in July 2002

* breaches parole again 2004

* found guilty of dangerous driving, drug possession in 2005 and serves three months

* in April 2005, convicted of theft, kidnapping, assault causing injury and drug trafficking, sentenced to 6.5 years.

* paroled April 2011

* parole ends October 2012

* murders Sarah Cafferkey in November 2012, 11 days after parole ends

ADRIAN ERNEST BAYLEY:

* Bayley is jailed for five years in early 1990s for raping a teenager and attempting to rape two women

* jailed in April 2002 for 11 years for 16 rape charges against five victims.

* released again in 2010

* convicted of assault in February 2012 while on parole, but parole was not revoked

* appealed the charge and was released on bail

* raped and murdered Jill Meagher in a Brunswick laneway in September 2012 while on bail

* found guilty of three more rapes in 2000, April 2012 and July 2012.

* now serving a 43-year jail sentence but intends to appeal on the grounds that the sentence is manifestly excessive
