Vic train passengers stranded

The patience of 160 Victorian train passengers has been tested after they were stranded for three hours between stations.

The passengers were stuck on board the Tuesday morning V/Line service from Traralgon to Melbourne after an overhead power fault closed the line ahead.

It was stuck in Dandenong also unable to move back because the way was blocked by a metropolitan train.

Without a platform nearby V/Line struggled to get the passengers off the train.

"We are unable to de-train as the area you are in it is unsafe to do so," it told one frustrated passenger in a tweet.

The train was eventually moved backwards to Hallam Station at 10am after the metropolitan train was shifted.

Passengers were transferred to four waiting buses.

A V/Line spokeswoman said they had to obtain "special permission from Metro trains" to move the V/Line train backwards.

It was expected the Gippsland line would be affected into Tuesday afternoon with a number of services being replaced by buses.
