Gaming giants Tabcorp and Tatts Group will go before the High Court of Australia over separate stoushes with the Victorian government.

The legal action follows a decision in 2008, by the then Brumby government, to remove their duopoly control over the state's poker machines.

The government is appealing a Supreme Court order that it pay $540 million to the Tatts Group, while Tabcorp is appealing the rejection of its $686 million compensation claim.
