Victoria's gaming watchdog boss resigns

The boss of Victoria's gambling and liquor regulator has resigned.

Bruce Thompson, Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation chairman, handed in his notice on Monday.

Consumer affairs minister Jane Garrett says a new chairperson will be appointed in about a month.

The commission will be overhauled, with regular inspections of licensed venues to be made a priority.

"We want to see venues checked thoroughly and regularly across the state to build a safer, stronger industry," Ms Garrett said in a statement.
