Police fear a camper may be lost or injured following the discovery of a campsite in Victoria's Brisbane Ranges.

Rangers found the camp unoccupied on Saturday, and patrols on Thursday saw the campsite was still in place with no one present, police say.

There was a sleeping bag, men's clothing, water, food and a mountain bike inside a tent.

A receipt for a supermarket in Corio was found, dated April 8, 2015.

An extensive search has failed to find the camper.

Senior Sergeant Shane Coles is appealing for locals with knowledge of the campsite or its owner to come forward.

"It's concerning to think that a campsite with personal belongings has been left abandoned and at this point, we're just wanting to make its owner is OK," he said.
