Six-year-old boy was playing with friends when killed by fallen tree branch near Shepparton in Victoria
A young boy who died after being hit by a falling tree branch in Victoria's north was believed to have been playing with friends.
Police said the six-year-old was at a private property off Bells Road, Gowangardie, east of Shepparton, when he was found injured just before 8am today.
Police said he received fatal injuries when a large branch fell from a tree and struck him.

Neighbours told 9News their hearts went out to the boy's family.
It's not yet known if he was local to the area or visiting family and friends during the school holidays.

It's the second death from a fallen tree branch in Victoria this week, after a father of two died on Boxing Day at a campsite.
The man had been camping with family at Carringal, in Victoria's east, when the incident occurred.
His family said he had been sitting at a campfire having a coffee when the tree branch fell, following severe storms in the area.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
