'Freak accident' leaves preschooler hospitalised with eye injury

A child has been airlifted to hospital after a "freak accident" at a daycare in regional Victoria.

9News understands the young boy was carrying a pencil before he tripped and sustained an eye injury at Nurture One Napier Street Centre in White Hills, Bendigo.

The preschooler was taken by air ambulance helicopter to the Royal Children's Hospital.

A G8 Education spokesperson says the "care, safety and well-being of children in their care is the highest priority".

"The team followed our emergency procedures, immediately calling for an ambulance and contacting the child's family," they said.

"Our thoughts are with the child and their family and we will continue to offer our support."

The boy is in a stable condition.
