Vic woman accused of boiling water attack

A Melbourne woman is being held in custody after she allegedly poured boiling water over a man as he slept.

Maria Doris Axiak, 55, has been charged with five offences including intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence after the alleged incident at Burnside on Saturday night.

She has also been charged with reckless conduct, intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury, and assault.

The man was taken to hospital with burns to his face and arm.

Axiak, dressed in a pink T-shirt and with cropped brunette hair, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday for a filing hearing.

The court was told she suffered depression, anxiety and diabetes, among other health issues.

She will be visited by a doctor while in custody.

Axiak, who did not apply for bail, was remanded in custody to reappear in the court on December 20 for a committal case conference.
