Vic travel agent charged with theft bailed

A Victorian travel agent is accused of stealing more than $200,000 by allegedly charging clients for holidays that were never booked.

Jordan Dittloff, 27, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday on 36 counts of theft alleged to have occurred in Colac between January and June this year.

He handed himself into police on Friday morning and was arrested following complaints he failed to make bookings after receiving payments from his clients.

Magistrate John Hardy said in court each charge appeared to relate to a different client.

Given a total of 45 complaints were made, more charges may arise, Mr Hardy said.

"Fairly substantial amounts of money (are) alleged to have been taken in some of them," Mr Hardy said.

One charge, arising from a transaction alleged to have taken place in June, relates to an amount of $39,000.

Another charge relates to an alleged transaction worth $38,000.

Dittloff was released on bail and will return to court for a committal hearing in September.
