Vic teen pleads guilty to terror plot

MELBOURNE TEEN ADMITS TO ANZAC DAY TERROR PLOT

WHAT HE DID

Sevdet Ramadan Besim, 19, planned an attack at an Anzac Day event where a police officer would be beheaded.

He researched Anzac Day parades and spoke about his deadly plans with a person overseas.

The teenager was one in a group of five arrested following counter terror raids in Melbourne in April 2015.

Weapons including swords, knives and a gun were seized in the joint operation.

Besim had written a "martyrdom note" and possessed a pledge to the leader of Islamic State.

WHAT'S HAPPENED NOW

Besim has pleaded guilty to one count of doing an act in preparation or planning for a terror attack.

He did so in a brief, pre-trial conference in the Victorian Supreme Court on Thursday.

Besim was originally going to stand trial in July, but his case will now go to a plea hearing in August.

The offence he admitted to carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
