A man who murdered his teenage stepson with a hammer wants a Melbourne court to give "everything" to his victim's mother because he has everything he needs in jail.

John Xypolitos was jailed in 2013 for 27 years after being found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Gary Adams and cutting up his corpse with a hacksaw.

from Xypolitos in the Victorian Supreme Court.

When the matter came before the court on Friday, the convicted killer claimed he had been refused Legal Aid funding to appeal because he had too many assets.

Xypolitos then told Justice Terry Forrest to "give her everything" as he wanted the matter to be finalised.

"I am trying to get educated in the legal system to lodge my own appeal in some later years," he said via video link from prison.

"Give her everything. Money doesn't mean anything to me, possessions don't mean anything to me.

"I've got everything I need in here."

Justice Forrest adjourned the matter to October 13.

Gary went missing in December 2003, but it took about eight years for Xypolitos' involvement to come to light.

Ms Adams told Xypolitos' pre-sentence hearing he had comforted her while she cried over Gary's disappearance.
