A former Melbourne scout leader allegedly molested a boy in a church hall in Melbourne's northeast as he tried to earn a scout badge.

Chris Edmondson, now aged in his 60s, in 1975 told the 10-year-old to shut his eyes and turn around before grabbing the boy's genitals, the County Court of Victoria was told on Tuesday.

Edmondson later went to grab the boy's genitals during a play fight after learning the scout wouldn't be attending a troop camp, the court also heard.

The leader had gone to the victim's home to say he was disappointed by the decision, and went into the boy's bedroom after speaking with his parents.

Edmondson, who was about 19 at the time, has pleaded not guilty to indecent assault and attempted indecent assault and his trial continues.
