Vic scammer buys laptop with fake notes

A Melbourne man has been conned by a fraudster who gave him $2000 of counterfeit notes in exchange for his laptop.

The man had advertised his computer for sale on the Gumtree website and arranged for a man to inspect it at his house last weekend.

"He pulled out a bundle of hundred dollar notes and proceeded to count it in front of me, all the notes looked 100 per cent legitimate," he said on Reddit.

The thief then left with the computer and the man looked closely at the notes and realised he had been scammed.

The victim captured the man on CCTV and uploaded the image on social media as a warning for others selling items online.
