Vic prison officer charged over child porn
A Victorian prison officer has lost his job after being accused of possessing explicit material involving children.
Victoria Police says a 57-year-old Leopold man has been charged with knowingly possessing child abuse material and knowingly possessing child pornography.
The charges come after an investigation by police in the Geelong sexual offences and child abuse team, which remains ongoing.
He has been bailed to appear at Geelong Magistrates' Court on November 13.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety has confirmed a prison officer is being investigated by police and is no longer in their employment.
"As the matter is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further," a department spokeswoman said in a statement.
"The department takes a zero-tolerance approach to breaches of our code of conduct."
