We're keeping jobs local: Vic premier

Victoria's premier says he is using taxpayers' spending power to keep jobs in the state, unlike NSW.

Premier Daniel Andrews told a business forum Victoria was buying local to keep the benefits of the spending in Australia.

"We've just placed the biggest order of (train) rolling stock that the state has ever seen, and built right here in Victoria by Victorians," Mr Andrews

"Our friends in NSW have placed a big order recently as well, but they're shipping all of those jobs offshore.

"They're not investing in their own skills, their own people, their own diversity."

Victoria's new trains will be built in Ballarat, while NSW's will be built in South Korea.

Mr Andrews also told the Committee for Economic Development of Australia luncheon that Victoria wanted more public-private partnerships for projects, including for large suburban road upgrades.

He promised to release a new framework for value creation and capture for major projects, with guidelines for businesses and governments on how to develop precinct hubs.
