Vic premier in China for official visit

Victoria's premier will arrive in Bejing on Tuesday morning for a seven-day official visit to China and Japan.

Daniel Andrews is hoping to improve business export opportunities and add to cultural partnerships while meeting with government and business officials.

He will visit the Jiangsu and Sichuan provinces before flying to Tokyo on the weekend.

China is Victoria's biggest trading partner, worth more than $20 billion in two-way trade.

That accounts for almost a quarter of Victoria's total food and fibre export market, including dairy, beef and wool, according to the state government.

"It's vital we keep our relationships with China and Japan strong - they're among our top trading partners and their investments in Victoria are good for our economy and great for jobs," Mr Andrews said in a statement.

The premier is set to announce a new performing arts event for Melbourne's Art Centre, new initiatives involving the state's sporting events and promote Victoria as a destination for international students.

He will return on September 27.
