Vic premier defends Homesafe cost blowout

A budget blowout on Victoria's 24-hour weekend public transport trial will also deliver more police during the week, Premier Daniel Andrews says.

He defended the $33 million cost spike for the 12-month Homesafe trial, which will start on January 1, as it includes additional transit police and Protective Services Officers.

"Those additional resources provided to Victoria Police are not just about the Homesafe trial, they are additional resources that can be used to keep Victorians safe every day of the week," Mr Andrews told reporters on Friday.
