Vic police target long weekend road safety
Victorian drivers have been warned that police will be out in force this Melbourne Cup long weekend.
With many people adding Monday to Tuesday's Melbourne Cup public holiday to give themselves a four-day weekend, police will on Thursday launch a road safety campaign.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Stephen Leane says police will be breath testing drivers near Flemington racecourse on Saturday after Derby Day and on Tuesday but will also be in action across the state.
"Can I ask that the community just remember that road safety is really important. Drinking and driving and drug driving is really problematic in regard to our community and deaths on our roads.
"We'll have police right across Victoria ensuring that the roads are safe."
