A fire at a factory that was being converted into apartments has left a repair bill of about $500,000.
The fire started just before 10pm last night at the factory in Fitzroy, in Melbourne's inner-north, and engulfed a part of the development before fire crews arrived.

It took firefighters about hour to bring the blaze under control, but asbestos was found and procedures had to be put in place to minimise risk to fire crews and the public.
Nobody was injured but it was deemed suspicious.
Police are investigating.
