Vic police dismiss demerit proposal
AAP
Victoria police have cast doubt on a proposal to reduce the cost of speeding fines in return for boosting demerit points.
The RACV thinks a bigger focus should be placed on high-range speeders, the Herald Sun reports, but the state's top road police officer said current standards were based on research.
"When others put out that we need to look at doing different methods, the first thing I ask is: 'where is the data that supports it?'" Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer told 3AW radio on Wednesday.
