Vic parliament resumes, protests on agenda

Victoria's Labor government aims to repeal the state's protest laws when parliament sits for the first time in 2015.

A full sitting week begins on Tuesday, the first since Labor was elected in November.

Attorney-General Martin Pakula says Labor will introduce legislation to repeal the former government's move-on laws, which gave police extra powers to move protesters on during blockades.

"Victoria doesn't need Bjelke-Petersen-style laws designed to silence dissent and outlaw peaceful protests," he said on Tuesday.

Police will retain the power to arrest people over illegal or violent protests, he said.

Changes to Question Time are also at the top of parliament's agenda.

Dorothy Dixers, rehearsed questions that government backbenchers put to ministers to consume Question Time, will end.

And ministers have to give relevant answers to opposition queries.
