Vic MP quashes Speaker talk

Independent Victorian MP Cathy McGowan has ruled out becoming Speaker should Bronwyn Bishop vacate the role due to an expenses scandal.

Fellow independent MP Clive Palmer believes the member for Indi could replace Ms Bishop, who he thinks should resign or face a no-confidence motion.

Ms McGowan told 3AW it was a compliment, but: "If I was sitting in the chair and was not able to vote then I wouldn't be able to do what I need to do for my electorate".
