Shot Vic men refuse to help police

Two Melbourne men who were shot while sitting in a car are refusing to assist police.

The injured Werribee men, aged 18 and 23, went to Werribee Mercy Hospital early on Saturday morning.

The 23-year-old had wounds to his finger and arm and has been released.

The younger man suffered a serious wound to his left shoulder and remains in The Alfred hospital.

Detective Sergeant Maurie Ryan of Victoria Police crime command said neither man was known to police.

It's believed a single gunshot was fired into the car near the intersection of Ballan and Hooker roads in Werribee before the men arrived at hospital about 12.45am (AEDT) on Saturday.

"The persons that have been shot have not divulged any information to us so at this stage it's pure guesswork," Det Sgt Ryan said.

"We will continue to speak to them and their families in an attempt to get them to co-operate with us so that we can stop this type of thing occurring in the Werribee area."

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
