Vic man up tree with knife charged

A Melbourne man who spent 10 hours up a tree armed with a knife will face court on a raft of charges.

The 47-year-old from Preston scaled the tree on Monday and it took police until about 11.20pm to talk him down.

He surrendered his knife and climbed down without incident before being taken to hospital.

He has been charged with attempted armed robbery, car theft and weapons and assault offences, police said on Tuesday.

The man is expected to front Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday afternoon.
