Melbourne man charged with rape

A 58-year-old man charged with raping a woman in the middle of the afternoon has faced a Melbourne court.

Chris Bahen, of Ringwood, was charged with one count of rape following the alleged attack in Ringwood on Monday.

He appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday, and did not apply for bail.

His lawyer told the court he would need to see a nurse and a psychiatric nurse because he suffered from high blood pressure, might have alcohol withdrawals and was a potential suicide risk.

It was his first time in custody, she said.

Bahen was remanded until December 5 for a committal mention.
