Vic man critical after being struck by car

A man is in an induced coma with critical injuries after he was struck by a car in a Melbourne suburb.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was found unconscious on Paterson Road in Springvale at 4.30am on Thursday.

He suffered head, abdominal and pelvis injuries and paramedics had to insert a breathing tube before he was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.

It's feared he may also have spinal injuries.

The incident was not a hit-run as first thought, with police saying on Thursday the female driver, 50, stopped at the scene and is now helping with their enquiries.
