Vic man attempts to steal cash register

A man waved a wrench at Melbourne fast food restaurant staff as he tried to steal a cash register through a drive-through window.

He unsuccessfully tried to grab it at the Flemington restaurant on Wednesday night, wielding the wrench to keep staff back.

The car he was driving had been stolen in Moonee Ponds earlier that day, during a carjacking in which a 50-year-old woman was threatened and told to hand over her keys.

The man drove off empty handed in the stolen car, which is yet to be located.
