Any support the Victorian government needs to stamp out live baiting in greyhound racing will be forthcoming from the opposition.

Racing Commissioner Sal Perna's report into live baiting in the industry is due to be tabled in Parliament on Thursday morning.

"Any issues where the government needs the opposition's support in relation to animal cruelty out of this report, the government will get the opposition's support," Opposition Leader Matthew Guy says.

Former premier and racing minister Denis Napthine said the "absolutely disgraceful" actions of some greyhound trainers should be pursued seriously.

"The people involved should be banned from owning greyhounds and owning greyhounds for the rest of their lives, and other court action taken where possible," Dr Napthine said.

He called for animal welfare groups to be more involved in policing greyhounds' safety.
