A man accused of hitting his mother with a rolling pin and stabbing her to death at her Melbourne home, has been found not guilty of murder due to mental impairment.

A Supreme Court jury on Tuesday found Socrates Tamvakis not guilty of the murder of Violet Tamvakis, 75, on April 26, 2016, following a two-week trial.

The jury was told the 45-year-old suffered "persecutory delusions" of his mother using black magic, attempting to poison him and molesting him as a child.
