Vic hospital charged over assault on nurse

A Victorian nurse suffered head and body injuries after being assaulted by a patient and the hospital has been charged with offences including failing to provide a safe workplace.

WorkSafe on Tuesday confirmed that Austin Health has been charged with three breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act following the assault in the mental health rehabilitation unit of the eastern suburbs hospital on October 18, 2017.

The nurse was admitted to hospital after the attack.

The matter will be listed for Heidelberg Magistrates Court on August 28.
