A Victorian health department bureaucrat has declined to say how much staff were paid for the Easter Sunday public holiday last financial year.

Department of Health and Human Services deputy secretary Lance Wallace told a Victorian parliamentary accounts and estimates committee hearing on Thursday that he was "not authorised" to give details on the costs the Easter Sunday public holiday cost health services in 2014-2015.

"So you're refusing to provide information", deputy chair David Morris said, to which Mr Wallace replied: "I'm indicating that I'm not authorised".
