Vic Greens want Lord's Prayer removed

The Victorian Greens want to remove the daily Lord's Prayer in state parliament.

They are proposing an alternative that reflects Victoria's secular and multicultural society.

"Every morning the parliament stands to recite the Lord's Prayer, but this is an anachronism in today's multicultural Australia and a breach of church-state separation," Greens acting Leader Ellen Sandell said in a statement.

The ACT has replaced prayer with silent reflection and the US Congress rotates between prayers from different faiths.

The Senate rejected the Greens' push to remove the Lord's Prayer from the daily opening of federal parliament in early 2014.
