Victorian government signs $480m level crossing removal contract

Contracts worth $480 million have been signed to remove another four level crossings, as part of the Victorian government's pledge to remove 20 across Melbourne during its first term and 50 over two terms.
A consortium including Leightons Holdings will do the work at crossings on Heatherdale Road in Mitcham, Blackburn Road in Blackburn, and Furlong and Main roads in St Albans.
"These will all be rail-under-road, work will begin very soon, that is this year, and they will all be completed by the end of 2018," Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said, adding this took the number of crossing removals in the advanced planning phase to 17.
