Vic fraudster has jail sentence cut

A woman who duped an Australian Tax Office employee into giving her more than $300,000 for fake investments has had her jail sentence slashed on appeal.

Joanne Mendoza-Cortez was in July sentenced to two years and 11 months, with a minimum of one year and two months, after pleading guilty to 12 counts of defrauding a woman of $333,470.

The Court of Appeal on Monday reduced her sentence to a minimum term of nine months on the basis that the sentencing judge made mistakes, including not factoring in a delay between the offences occurring - in 2007 and 2008 - and sentencing in 2016.
