Vic firefighters want Xmas pay deal

Angry firefighters have rallied on the steps of Victorian parliament with Santa, calling on Premier Daniel Andrews to deliver their Christmas wish of a new pay deal.

Hundreds chanted and jeered as United Firefighters Union members opened large wrapped presents, with nothing inside, that they said were from Mr Andrews and Emergency Services Minister Jane Garrett.

"Unfortunately they've forgotten about the Christmas spirit for firefighters," UFU secretary Peter Marshall told the crowd.

Last week the union rejected the government's offer of a 14.7 per cent wage increase over four years, citing a lack of detail in the proposal presented to them.

Ms Garrett on Tuesday said the government was "very comfortable" with the pay and conditions being offered to firefighters.

"We want this deal resolved as quickly as possible," she told reporters on Tuesday.
