Vic drug driver admits killing woman

A drug-affected Melbourne driver who ran a red light has admitted to dangerous driving which killed a woman.

Aaron Sandner, 30, ploughed through the Docklands intersection, hitting the passenger side of a car which was turning right on a green arrow.

Front seat passenger Tien Le, 34, of Yarraville died at the scene.

Her partner who was driving, Cory Jach, was seriously injured.

Sandner, of Hillside, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious injury and possessing amphetamines.

A police investigation found the traffic lights had been red for about 6.7 seconds when Sandner's ute approached the intersection on February 1, according to tendered court documents.

Police later found 49 grams of methylamphetamine, a small set of electronic scales and a smoking pipe in his vehicle.

Tests confirmed methylamphetamines and amphetamines in his system, the documents said.

Sandner, of Hillside, had his bail continued and he will face the Victorian County Court on November 27.
