Vic designer killer sentence may increase

A man jailed for at least 13 years for killing his prominent interior decorator partner and then torching their luxury Melbourne apartment could have his jail time increased.

The director of public prosecutions has filed an appeal against the sentence of Michael Anthony O'Neill, 48, on the grounds it is manifestly inadequate.

O'Neill was jailed for 18 years prison with a non-parole period of 13 years after he pleaded guilty to arson and to murdering his partner Stuart Rattle with a frying pan and a dog lead in 2013.

Mr Rattle's family said they were "shattered" after judge Elizabeth Hollingworth handed down the sentence on February 11.
