The future of $130 million in federal funding equal to 43,000 Victorian apprenticeships is in limbo, says the state government.

The National Partnership on Skills Funding runs out in June and a new agreement is yet to be confirmed.

Last year Victoria received $130 million under the program, funding that would support 43,000 apprenticeships.

The program was set up in 2012 to improve training quality and make it more accessible, especially for people facing financial hardship.

The Andrews government wants Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to announce a future for the funding.

"We'll always support apprentices and the TAFEs who train them but it's time the Turnbull government played their part," Training and Skills Minister Gayle Tierney says.
