A Victorian man facing more than 60 charges over the alleged historical sex abuse, assault and false imprisonment of his daughters will be released on bail.

The wheelchair-bound 77-year-old was arrested last August and charged with 33 counts of indecent assault, eight counts of incest, a charge of false imprisonment, carnal knowledge of a child under 10 and other offences.

The man, who cannot be named, allegedly attacked his three daughters in the 1960s and 1970s.

He was granted bail by a magistrate but remained in custody because he was unable to come up with the $10,000 surety that was one of his bail conditions.

A Victorian court on Tuesday heard he suffers from cirrhosis and hypertension and his health had deteriorated while in prison.

A judge granted him bail, saying he could only leave the small town where he'll be staying in South Australia for medical treatment.

The man will be released on Thursday.
