Vic driver charged with minibus deaths

A disqualified driver who allegedly crashed a stolen car into a minibus, killing two elderly women, has not applied for bail in a Melbourne court.

Michael Patrick Trueman, 23, is charged with two counts of culpable driving over the deaths of Katharina Nenstiel, 88, and Betty May Fox, 91, in a crash at Rosebud on Wednesday.

Police allege Trueman stole a white Holden Commodore on Coburg and drove to Rosebud, where he crashed head-on into a minibus carrying seven dementia patients.

Ms Nenstiel died at the scene, while Ms Fox died in hospital on Thursday.

Several other passengers were injured.

Trueman was held at the Dandenong hospital and charged on Friday night.

He was charged with two counts of culpable driving, two counts of dangerous driving causing death, one count of reckless driving, theft of motor car, and driving while disqualified.

Trueman appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Saturday and did not apply for bail.

Magistrate Ross Betts remanded the Coburg man in custody to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on August 20.
