The Victorian government hopes to ease the impact of the end of car manufacturing in the state with $46.5 million to help retrenched workers find new jobs.

Most of the money - $33 million - will go towards supporting communities hit hardest by the closure of Ford, Toyota and Holden, while another $8.4 million will be spent on training and skills programs in Melbourne's southeast.

"We're not without our challenges but we won't meet those challenges by being gloomy about things," Premier Daniel Andrews said on Monday.
