Vic trio arrested over racist taxi attack

Three men have handed themselves in to police after a Melbourne taxi driver was racially abused and had his vehicle smashed up with a machete.

The cabbie was standing outside a Craigieburn house on October 26 with friends, when a group of six men walking past allegedly racially abused and assaulted him.

The men returned later in the night as the driver was about to leave for work and began verbally abusing him and damaging his taxi.

He drove off and they gave chase in their cars, cutting him off and threatening him with a machete before smashing the taxi's windscreen.

Hours after detectives appealed for public assistance on Friday, two men from Craigieburn, aged 22 and 18, and a 23-year-old man from Epping handed themselves in.

They were being interviewed.
