Vic facing second day of wild weather

Emergency services have received almost 500 calls for help in the past 24 hours as Victoria braces for a second day of wild weather.

The SES says most of the calls were about fallen trees and minor damage to buildings caused by strong winds.

Alpine areas were thrashed with gale force winds overnight with 122km/h gusts recorded at Mount Hotham.

A severe weather warning has again been issued on Tuesday for the central district and all of Gippsland, with winds up to 100km/h possible in coastal areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology says a deep low pressure system is just south of Tasmania and an associated trough will push across Victoria on Tuesday reaching the state's east by the afternoon.

Flood warnings remain in place for northeast Victoria including the Upper Murray, Mitta Mitta, Kiewa, Ovens and King Catchments, Goulburn and Broken Basins and the Murray River upstream of Lake Hume.
