Vic biotech CEO sentence postponed

The sentence of a leading researcher and chief executive of a Victorian biotech company who conned millions of dollars from her employer has been postponed.

Esra Ogru was to be sentenced at the Victorian County Court on Wednesday, but Judge Felicity Hampel said she was not in a position to do it and needed more time to consider the matter.

Ogru's plea hearing was told she was part of a scam which used fake invoices and credit card claims to net about $6 million from biotech company Phosphagenics and its subsidiary Vital Health Sciences, between 2004 and 2013.

Ogru, 39, of Wheelers Hill, has pleaded guilty to seven counts of obtaining a financial advantage by deception.

She will now be sentenced on Friday.
