Three men have been charged with serious religious vilification after allegedly beheading a dummy in an anti-Islam protest in Bendigo.

A 31-year-old from South Morang, a 34-year-old from Frankston, and a 45-year-old from Wallan have each also been charged with defacing property, wilful damage and behaving in an offensive manner in public at the October 4 protest last year.

The men have been charged on summons and are expected to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on March 6 next year.
