Vic abortion laws not going to change

A bid to change Victoria's abortion laws looks over before it begins, with all major parties rejecting it.

Democratic Labour Party MP Rachel Carling-Jenkins has drafted a private members bill that would see women who are more than 20 weeks' pregnant denied an abortion except in a medical emergency.

But her attempt to get it through the Victorian parliament looks set to be knocked back.

Premier Daniel Andrews said he respected other people's deeply personal views on abortion, but the law was settled seven years ago.

"I respect others who may have a very different view to me, but I believe these matters were settled and settled properly back in 2008," Mr Andrews told reporters on Tuesday.

MPs from the Liberals, the Greens, and the Sex Party will address speak about their opposition to the proposed bill at Parliament House on Tuesday.

Forty organisations have signed an open letter supporting Mr Andrews' stance on the laws.
