Vandals attack memorial to slain police in Melbourne

Vandals have struck the Victoria Police Memorial in Melbourne, dousing it in red paint and spraying anti-police slogans.

Police believed unknown offenders carried out the vandalism overnight.

Red paint was dumped over the central plaque, while phrases including "good cop, dead cop", "ACAB" (an acronym for "all cops are bastards"), and "shame" were spray-painted onto the walls.

The memorial honours police who have died in the line of duty.

Police are investigating and are eager to speak to any witnesses.

Council workers will remove the graffiti.
